FANTASTIC SHOW AT THE HOOD MUSEUM OF ART

November 7, 2006

The Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College is presently showing a fantastic show entitled “Dreaming their way: Australian Aboriginal Women Painters”.  Approximately 55 intensely colored canvases and intricate paintings on bark make a marvellous show — don’t miss it!  Jane Darrach

My drive to the office

November 7, 2006

My ride to the office the other day was the most beautiful experience. I chose to drive along Rt 5 in Vermont which runs parallel to the Connecticut River. It was early morning and quite cool. Mist was rising off the river as the sun was just beginning to crest over the New Hampshire hills on the other side. I like to keep my eye posted for ducks, birds etc. I saw a large bird flying in the distance coming my way. To my delight, it was a bald eagle cruising the river most likely fishing. It allowed me to have a great view and I was most delighted with that experience. A short distance down the road I heard the train coming which, in our area, is a pleasure to watch. The train was traveling north, going very slow, carrying saw logs and crossed the trestle bridge over the Ompompanoosuc River just as the sun came out and provided a picture perfect photo shot. I was sorry I didn’t have my camera with me. As I was nearing town I had to take a small detour around a pick up truck that had lost a huge wooden box of butternut squash all over the road. Two fellows were standing in the road wondering just how they were going to deal with it. Another missed photo opportunity.

Living in the Upper Valley is a wonderful experience and just a simple ride to work can be well…simply beautiful.

HALLOWEEN VISITORS

November 1, 2006

We had a good number of trick or treaters on Blueberry Hill. From scary ninjas, to adorable Pippi Longstocking and an incredibly sweet cat they came and took candy — not enough to finish the overabundant supply, but a lot of it! A number of parents came with the smaller kids and it was fun to meet some new neighbors we didn’t know before.   Jane Darrach
